hey. some deflated ramblings from a lowly frontline doc here. Leave the back-house staff alone. Does @jkenney know what happens to the cogwheels of a hospital when you are short on cleaning staff, or sterile equipment, or porters? 11 000 “non frontline” workers are essential 1/
And their jobs will be done by someone else who costs more & will be less efficient at their jobs. And so on. I can’t wrap my head around this shit because there is $600 million in service reductions (oh, cost savings you say? Let’s be realistic) in the next 3 years. 2/
And there is connect care. A breathtakingly $$ roll out of a EMR befitting of the 21st century. You need about 100 beds blocked in EDM for that by the end of this month, right? 3/
And of course, COVID-19. When 40% continuing care facilities and three active acute care hospitals in Edmonton are on outbreak, where do patients go? How do we care for them safely? Can’t cancel surgery. Politically, that looks bad & adds fuel to your privatization fire 4/
And forget about the intentions we had... improving quality and safety, rising up to our renowned educational standards, and all the continuing medical education we’ve planned. Have to prepare to be handcuffed into an ARP with the government with no representation by my peers. 5/
Too bad the UCP killed the ARP physician support program because now we have nowhere to turn for help. Caged like a bunch of cattle, rounded up for slaughter... wish I could tell Jason and Tyler off but I’m still #blockedbyshandro and @jkenney doesn’t seem to care 6/
Read the book, “The Body Economic:Austerity Kills” by David Stuckler @jkenney @GoAHealth #RecessionshurtbutAusterityKills
This government is doing everything wrong and people will suffer and people will die. It’s f$&ing depressing. 7/7
