You know the interesting thing about horror? I mean lots of stuff but I have been thinking about how it is full of people making mistakes and getting deep into bad trouble and you are encouraged to care, and hope.
They're probably screwed and you know that. And you hope anyway. And sometimes it works out and it's such a rush because you rarely get to see a happy ending in such a dark story.
And also the protagonists have often done things to exacerbate the situation and you STILL care.

That's way more sympathy than modern life encourages us to expend, but it's good practice.
I will admit to periodically cheering the monster because we all have our limits.

Sometimes you can cheer for everyone. It's why Trolljegeren is my favorite. You hope everybody's ok in the end. Spoilers: no
