Today while volunteering sorting and shelving books at the local charity shop, a young man of about 11 years old came up to me. He asked if I remembered him. I said "Yes, you were looking for a book about ghosts or the supernatural that wasn't too scary"

"Yes. And you told me to read The Graveyard Book by @neilhimself "

"Did you like it?"

"It was the first book that I've read that I didn't *have* to read for school. I read it on the weekend. I missed playing video games with my friend because I wanted to read" (2/5)
"Awesome! I'm so glad you liked it! It's one of my favourites too."

"Mom said to ask if there are any other books by the author. She said there may not be but that the book lady would know" (Sidenote, I *love* being the "book lady and being recognized in town!) (3/5)
"I have some *very* good news for you on that front. Some might be a bit bigger than you'd prefer but we have this, which is another of my favourites of his"

I handed him the copy of Coraline that I'd been planning to buy to re-read. (4/5)
His eyes lit up. "Thank you! I can't wait to go home and read!" .

His mom followed him and thanked me for helping him learn to love reading. can't imagine a better compliment. I was just the go-between though, connecting the book to the recipient. #BestVolunteerGigEver (5/5)
