ASEXUALITY : a thread
educate yourself and avoid misjudging those who trust u enough to come out to u as an asexual
we are not broken. it is normal, okay and valid.

first of all, what being an asexual means? it means we feel little to no sexual attraction to other people.
there are three terms that are frequently seen as the same but arent: "libido", "sexual attraction" and "sexual desire"
there are three terms that are frequently seen as the same but arent: "libido", "sexual attraction" and "sexual desire"
libido as in "im turned on" is the urge to feel sexual release, to orgasm, that causes your body to “get horny”. it is a physical biological response that’s not necessarily directed at a particular individual. asexuals CAN experience libido. +
+ actually, just like any other individual, asexuals can have high, medium, low, or no libido. you DO NOT need to feel sexual attraction in order to have libido.
sexual attraction as in "im turned on by YOU" is what asexuals DON'T feel, e.g. a sexual urge directed towards a particular person; a "craving" for or “magnetism” toward somebody's body. +
while some on the asexual spectrum NEVER feel sexual attraction, others CAN feel it, but very rarely compared to those on the sexual spectrum
sexual desire as in "i want to have sex" is the desire to participate in sexual activity. asexuals CAN have sexual desire. it doesnt mean they feel sexual atraction to anyone in particular: they can look for sex to satisfy their libido or just because its an activity they enjoy+
so, some asexuals actively pursue sexual relationships (sex-favorable), some asexuals don't care either way (sex-indifferent), some asexuals have zero interest in having sex (sex-averse), and some are actively repulsed by the idea of having sex(sex-repulsed)
asexuality is actually an umbrella term, which means it includes many different sexualities. the three main ones are asexual, grey-asexual and demisexual
there are many more micro-labels, specifying the conditions in which they feel libido, sexual attraction, or sexual desire. i decided to leave some in the picture here
sexual orientation and romantic orientation are actually two different types of attraction. while sexual orientation is determined by which gender(s) someone feels sexual attraction to, romantic orientation is determined by which gender(s) someone feels romantic attraction to.+
allosexuals can feel no romantic attraction and asexuals can feel romantic attraction.
with that being said, here are the most common romantic orientations:
aromantic - does not feel romantic attraction to anyone
heteromantic - feels romantic attraction for the opposite gender
homoromantic - feels romantic attraction for the same gender+

homoromantic - feels romantic attraction for the same gender+
biromantic - feels romantic attraction for multiple genders
panromantic - feels romantic attraction for any gender
greyromantic - experiences romantic attraction very rarely
demiromantic - experiences romantic attraction only after establishing a strong emotional bond

as i said before, even though asexuals usually do not feel sexual attraction, they can feel other types of attraction as well!! ive already mentioned romantic attraction, but there are more: +
-aesthetic attraction: occurs when someone appreciates the appearance or beauty of another person(s), disconnected from sexual or romantic attraction
-sensual attraction - the desire to interact with others in a tactile, non-sexual way, such as through hugging or cuddling +

-emotional attraction - the desire to get to know someone, often as a result of their personality instead of their physicality
-intellectual attraction - the desire to engage with another in an intellectual manner, such as engaging in conversation with them

oh and i forgot to mention the fact that ace is an abbreviation of asexual and because of it, the ace of cards, specially the spades one is also one of the representative symbols of the ace community
well i think this is the end of the thread, i hope it was somehow informative and if u ever have any doubts and/or need to talk to someone about this matter, my dms are open!!
so here's a more accurate explanation for how the aces of cards are used to symbolize the community!! https://twitter.com/KayTeeKeySull/status/1317842989755006976?s=19
