how can you consciously argue that “women who write bl content are fetishizing them” when you claim that lesbians can fetishize mlm and that bisexual women can fetishize bisexual men
what the hell are you basing your definition of fetishization on? if it’s just attraction (which is a poor framework of analysis) then how can lesbians fetishize mlm if they aren’t even attracted to men?
if you’re basing it on what it should be, which is objectification borne out of a power dynamic, then again how do you claim that wlw can fetishize mlm? lesbians don’t have power over gay/be men. neither do bisexual women. and in fact it’s doubly hilarious to assert that
BISEXUAL women can fetishize BISEXUAL men but not the other way around. bi men and bi women have the same sexuality and can and do feel attraction to and date each other so how in the world can bi women “fetishize” their own sexuality?
and if you’re really analyzing it through a lens of power dynamics, then how can you ignore gender? wlw and mlm do not have a 1:1 power ratio. mlm are still men and still retain power over wlw. this is such basic analysis.
and if you’re really this concerned about wlw “fetishizing” mlm, where is the same level of concern for mlm talking about women’s bodies and work and labor in objectifying and demeaning ways? what, does that not count as misogyny?
these half baked takes always imply that wlw occupy some kind of higher rung in patriarchal hierarchy than mlm when if you look at all material measures (employment, income, assets, legal rights), mlm still have privileges where wlw don’t
and yet instead of looking at material reality we’re either basing our analysis off on attraction (in which case it wouldn’t make sense to posit that lesbians can fetishize men or that bi women can fetishize bi men) or acting like writing kinky content means you have power
so honestly, what is the truth? if it’s “women are attracted to men so they can objectify mlm” where does it leave lesbians, and bi women in relation to bi men? if it’s truly about power, what about gender? and in all of this how do nonbinary people factor in? 🤔
