Ice Cube was the Black late 20th Century American version of the "angry young man," a working class/working poor youth whose oppositional, disaffected, & even nihilistic posture served as a protest against a rigidly stratified, hypocritical, and deeply unfair social structure...
That serves to keep him down, humiliate him, and prevent him from reaching his full potential....Here's the thing, Ice Cube is no longer young & never will be again. And his life circumstances, the circumstances that turned him into an angry young man in the first place, have...
Changed. He is no longer the young working class black youth being relentlessly harassed by the police; Ice Cube is now the wealthy/world famous music artist/actor/producer who probably signs autographs for cops. Ice Cube no longer says "F*ck the police"; he plays police in film
His position in the prevailing social hierarchy has changed so the focus of his anger changed. Now it's the liberals who plan to raise taxes on ppl who make more than 400k/yr. And, like many "angry young men" before him, Ice Cube has become a conservative (even reactionary)...
Man.

I'm sick over Ice Cube but not terribly surprised. Because his wealth and fame are now shielding him from the toughest realities of life in black America, he now has more in common with wealthy white people than the angry young black man he used to be.🤷🏾‍♀️
