No one believes me when I say cops don’t need free coffee or anything. Or that the sanitation crew works harder than cops. Or that fast food workers deal with more angry people than cops. Or that cab drivers have a more dangerous job than me. So I’ll say it again:

We cops have AWESOME POWER & we need to act accordingly. No free anything. And no being defensive cuz someone’s experience with ‘hero’ cops isn’t what we want it to be. We cops must not tell communities how we will do our job. Our communities tell us what our job is.

Just like deifying the military so they become slogans and not people, we do the same with cops. We aren’t heroes. We are lucky people trying to leverage our luck to help the unlucky. We need to change what it means to be a cop in America.
