A startup I’m watching in the fintech space is @sequin_hq. A credit card made by women, for women, and it’s backed by mostly women. I signed up on their waitlist weeks ago, and have sent the link to all my girl groupchats lol. But I want to discuss why this is important:
On average, a woman pays $1,350 more for essentials than a man (known as the Pink Tax). Sequin’s goal is to “pay” that tax back by a rewards program for essential purchases. Women pay extra hidden costs: taking care of family = extra bus tickets, regular gyno visits/BC, etc.
But the MOST IMPORTANT reason I’m excited for @sequin_hq is the opportunity to independently build credit. Women, including myself, revert to debit cards or are secondary card holders under someone else (father/husband). So I never get to reap the benefits of building credit. 🙄
Long story short, keep an eye out for @sequin_hq - I’m excited to see how they execute a women-centric credit card and if/how other major credit cards respond.
