I think we must someday when we sober and calmer debate and discuss this issue without emotions looking into Anti dumping laws, Tax avoidance, Anti pollution laws ( protecting the enviroment) and how we & the MPs miss to intellectually contribute into the discussion. #TiniTwitter
There is nothing wrong with Legal Notice 183 of 2020 which capped thw importation of Dubais at 7 years. Infact any sound goverment committed into fighting anti dumping of products, tax avoidaince and protect the environment should pass such Legal notice. #TiniTwitter . #DubaiCars
We all know that most of these cars imported into the country are way beyond their sell by date. Actually they are supposed to be sent back to the manufacturer to be refurbished into new cars. But somehow they find themselves into the country. They use us as dumping sites. #TiniT
Such conduct leads to increase traffic on the road ( Look at Mbabane, Matsapha and Manzini) during peak hours. Increased road accidents, increased air pollution as well as increased damaged road infrastructure. The cost incurred from these cars by goverment far outweighs benefits
Most of these cars are dont pay taxes. The law exempted cars older than 15 years from paying taxes. Hence you find many Dubais having been registered ( fraudulently) as older than 15years to avoid those taxes. With goverment losing lot of taxes. #TiniTwitter
However, when you have a rogue goverment, undemocratic and morally bankrupt and kleptocracy even such good modern laws will be met with naked disdain, resistance and sometimes even misunderstood and misrepresented as in this case. #TiniTwitter
I do agree that goverment is misusing our taxes and cannot be trusted with our monies. And how about the public interest especially the "poor" who were benefiting from these affordable cars. #Tinitwiiter
We must channel our anger and efforts correctly if we are to deal with this issue. Firstly we must hold goverment accountable with our monies. Demand more transparency and Accountability. Advocate for strong actions against corruption and misuse of our monies. #TiniTwitter
MPs shouls raising issues on where is out money going? How is it benefiting our people? What is being done to deal with corruption? How do you develope people centre budget with development agenda. I am not suprised they lost the debate because it was misguided. #TiniTwitter
On the issue of "poor" Swazis. I do not agree that because we are poor we must take rubbish and anything given to us. We must hold our goverment to higher standards. Our people ( teachers, nurses, civil servants etc) deserve better than a 15yr old HondaFit. #TiniTwitter
Our workers ( those who labour) intensively from 8am to 5pm deserve better than a 20yr old mazda demio. They deserve dignity and to be valued for their effort and contribution in developing this country. #TiniTwitter
MPs and the public should be loud in raising the issues of minimum wages, Living Wages and Cost of Living Allowances. They should be calling for improved and decent wages for teachers, nurses and workers to be able to afford decent cars wheather import or local cars. #TiniTwitter
We should be calling for goverment to allow for car assembling plants in the country, for car dealers to offer credit facilities for cars without going via banks and payment of deposites which end up making the car more expensive to the workers. We must talk industrialisation.
Once people are decent wages, treated with dignity and work in conducive environment, we wont be fighting and crying for old 15 year old Japanes cars way pass their sell by dates. We will go to Carson and buy brand new cars. I rest my case. #TiniTwitter @Dungavee_ @MkhoDlamini
