Thanks for this important work. I am concerned that the focus on the 47% of schools offering CS masks the actual participation in classes, which is ~4%. At that rate even if every HS taught CS, we'd still only reach 10% of Ss. Not the ALL we hope for in #CSforALL https://twitter.com/ECEP_CS/status/1316370865882370048
The report shares robust data around participation by underrepresented groups, which remains stubbornly awful in most cases. We need to look at the barriers in place at the schools that do offer CS: why is the participation so low? Prerequisites? # of sections/teachers? Interest?
Very grateful to @ericson_barbara for her work disaggregating AP data, cited in this report, and to @guzdial for his blog surfacing the participation data https://cacm.acm.org/blogs/blog-cacm/239199-a-minuscule-percentage-of-students-take-high-school-computer-science-in-the-united-states-access-isnt-enough/fulltext#:~:text=Given%20these%20numbers%2C%20It%20would,schools%20now%20offer%20computer%20science.
