I realize no one at the Tavern League will see this, or care, as they can't even figure out Twitter, but here we are. The @tavernleaguewi / @tavernleaguewis recent suit against the governors capacity regulation sure is something, innit? Let's dig.
Tavern League of Wisconsin is a not-for-profit organization which also has a charitable arm, the Tavern League of Wisconsin Foundation. With over 5,000 members, they are one of the largest trade association in the US to exclusively represent the interests of licensed bev retaile
Yeah, that's from their own bio. But what the Tavern League really is is an obsolete old, white, sad social club operating under the guise that they are "looking out for bars' best interests", mainly by employing a lobbyist that used to work for Miller.
It's turned into an awkward right-wing group that holds meetings to talk about how great the"old days" were. They haven't done anything for bars and restaurants in over a decade. They said the smoking ban would put bars out of business (it didn't.)
They're anti marijuana legislation. In their warped mindset, legalizing cannabis will mean that no one will go to bars anymore. The money once spent on a Hamm's tallboy will now go exclusively to a sexy new strain of OG kush. (see how ridiculous this sounds?)
The Tavern League pretends to care about the health of it's bar patrons (even saying so on their site!), yet wants bars across the state at full capacity. Yet another group taking the side of a virus that's killed over 200k+ now and counting.
It's so sweet of them to pay for safe rides home via local cab companies (if one exists in the area). It's a component that rarely gets utilized; I would LOVE to see the numbers of how many free rides were given in 2019. I'll wait. Or I'll research.
Speaking of rides, tavern league had quite a heavy hand in making OWI's here just a mere slap on the wrist. Wisconsin has the most relaxed drunk driving laws in the entire country. It's by design, and with the age-old drinking culture here, is sad.
A group that's seemingly *for* small businesses is strangely against small breweries, wineries, and distilleries being able to offer any products other than their own on site. Demanding they reduce hours. Demanding they attain a variety of licenses. Etc.
Here's a tweet about event venues and wedding barns. The Tavern league hates them, because, of course, that would mean less people at the local watering hole that's had the same beverage lineup for 30 years and has never cleaned their draft lines. I digress.
So what does a place "get" with a $50 yearly membership? Peace of mind that a fake legislative arm is helping out their business behind the scenes. Somehow. No one is really sure. You get to be part of a club that reminisces about nonsense basically.
I haven't even talked about the lack of diversity on their board of directors. Why would you expect an antique like the Tlw to, though. (hint: there isn't any)

Let's take a look at some of the newer members though, as it is a bit puzzling. I'll stick with Milwaukee, because I live in the county.
