I’m already mad at this show because Big Sky country is Indian Country and this issue IS happening to Ntv ppl but I see no Natives present. Just a cop who says, “dangerous place for pretty girls” which is...woof. https://twitter.com/bigskyabc/status/1316061135016062976
Here’s the thing: if you aren’t trying to tell a Native story, fine! But beware of erasure, understand geography, and recognize vulnerable populations for your crime dramas.
I say this as a Native woman and a crime drama lover: why are we ever pretending like only pretty white girls go missing?! My gawd what a disparaging conclusion to come to in crime fiction!
Hey, before you - a non-Native person - comes onto this thread to tell me about Native media, I wanna tell you that I am a Native tv writer, podcaster and person WHO ALREADY KNOWS AND HAS EXPANDED OPINIONS ABOUT NTV MEDIA REPRESENTATION! Helped draft this: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/native-and-indigenous-writers-ask-hollywood-to-advance-film-and-tv-representation
