As promised I will be discussing Emmett Till’s horrific murder. Caused by the lies of Carolyn Bryant. Not only did she lie but she embellished the lie to make sure her killer husband was set free.
14 year old Emmett Till was the only child of Mamie Till. His family and close friends called him Bobo. His family described him as outgoing and funny. He was raised in Chicago and in a way shielded from the blatant racism of the South.
Initially Mamie said no to his trip to Mississippi to visit relatives. But Emmett won his mom over and wanted to visit with his cousins. The incident started at the local grocery store owned by the Bryant’s. Carol Bryant claimed a 14 yr old child made sexual advances toward her.
I want to point out how white women’s virtue is protected til the death by white men. White women know this and they use it even today. White women tears kill.
Her husband Roy Bryant was told of the incident. He and his half brother J.W. Milam kidnapped Emmett out of bed from his uncle’s house. They tortured and beat a child to death. Shot him in the head and tied him to a huge metal fan with barbed wire then dumped his body in a river.
This was a tough read. This is what witnesses heard from that night as he was tortured. Also what his mother saw when his body was returned to Chicago.
An all white male jury acquitted his killers of murder. This was common then and it’s common now. Not only are we murdered but justice is never to be expected.
It was Mamie Till’s insistence and courage that made sure Emmett’s body was returned. They tried to cover up how horrific the crime was. She chose an open casket and no touch up to show the brutality of racist white men and the racist white woman who caused her sons death.
I can’t think of a more blatant case to show that white women participated and continue to participate in white supremacy. Sadly there is more and it all isn’t in the distant past.
