Turning Point presents itself as empowering conservative students.
The reality is that it is an organization intent on suppressing students.
Here, founder Charlie Kirk cheers campus closures as a way of reducing student turnout. "Its a great thing." https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/council-national-policy-video/2020/10/14/367f24c2-f793-11ea-a510-f57d8ce76e11_story.html
The organizations pushing these messages are non-profits, and thus not supposed to be engaged in coordinated political activity. But the IRS seems no longer seems to pursue these violations after their budget was cut for investigating them in the past. https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/council-national-policy-video/2020/10/14/367f24c2-f793-11ea-a510-f57d8ce76e11_story.html
These are not marginal figures organizing these events: involves Ginni Thomas (wife of Justice Thomas), who has been helping to stock the Trump administration with loyalists at the expense of qualification, and the head of the Federalist Society. https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/council-national-policy-video/2020/10/14/367f24c2-f793-11ea-a510-f57d8ce76e11_story.html
Just super interesting to see what these people say behind closed doors, and connect it to Republican propaganda. https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/council-national-policy-video/2020/10/14/367f24c2-f793-11ea-a510-f57d8ce76e11_story.html
Anyway, the purpose of Turning Point has always been pretty clear: turn bad-faith attacks on higher education into clicks, money, and a political brand. Charlie Kirk blocked me after I posted this thread. https://twitter.com/donmoyn/status/982404273731526656?s=20
