the more i take art courses the more i am convinced that abstract art is a bourgeois form of art
and before anyone goes "weeehh vinny you're being a fascist"
firstly the shit that fascists defame is shit from the early 20th century which is decidedly not abstract
secondly i'm referring to abstract non-representational art

like would it really be so insane to say that impressionism had a bourgoise character? that baroque had a royal character? of course not! those movements were influenced by class and as a result depicted early capitalists and nobility as the main subject of their paintings
abstract art, especially post modernism, is currently the movement of choice by capitalists because inherent to the movement is a non-decision by the artist of a subject. by denying the artist the ability to chose a subject, real or imagined, abstract non-representational art-
prevents the artist from making any sort of political statement, intentional or otherwise. to simply paint the reality you see before you is political. to paint an imagined reality is political. the act of simply choosing a framework is political.
but by denying the existence of a framework, or even the concept of frameworks in general (as in postmodernism), the political character of art is stripped away, leaving only a product to be purchased and hung on a wall- inoffensive and pleasing
the thing about 20th century modern art is that it broke tradition to make a STATEMENT. it was an intentional distortion instead of simply a non-decision on the part of the artist. nonrepresentation abstract art is like if there was a movement dedicated to only painting in grey.
its a fucking cop-out! and the fact that nonrepresentational abstract art was literally funded by the cia and fbi only makes it worse
