you know what makes me genuinely confused? people who sup zutara, reylo and dramione are almost always 20 years or older. reylo can slide but how are you gonna be 20+ romanticizing toxic relationships that are of chracters ages 13-17 it makes no sense
and before this starts anything: i will not deny that all three of those ships have serious potential (reylo is quite literally canon, and because i love star wars, i choose to respect that) but at the end of the day: kylo tortured rey and tried to kill her multiple times +
zuko tried to kill and hurt katara and her friends and family multiple times (even after his redemption... in the FIRST comic theres a panel of him hurting her) and various indigenous people have expressed how harmful zutara can be (the colonizer stuff) +
and draco called hermione a slur their entire childhood. i hate when people say that mudblood wasn't a slur or it's fiction so why do you care because if it was a real life situation and it was a person of privilege calling a minority a slur, people wouldn't be like +
"omg they were so in love he was just misunderstood". all three of those ships romanticize abuse and normalize the toxic concept that the girl has to fix the broken guy and it's okay for men to treat their girlfriends poorly because men in the media do it. +
it's most harmful to young girls who are being exposed to both the original content and responsible adults who they look up to glorifying these abusive relationships because those young girls are going to grow up and think that it's okay for boys to treat them badly if +
"they're just broken and i can fix them". I'm afraid it's raising a generation of future survivors. as some one who romanticized these ship tropes in my early teen years, i can say i have gotten into some really scary situations with a boy because i believed i could fix him.+
and i know it will be different for everyone, this is just my experience, but adults online need to understand why a lot of us don't support or feel comfortable with those ships. it goes so much deeper than "the chemistry was better". +
i am trying my best to protect young teen girls and prevent them from going through what i went through. that is why i am actively anti-zutara, anti-reylo and anti-dramione. and it is really discouraging when fully grown adults invalidate your opinions when they should be helping
the point of this thread is not to tell you who you can and cannot ship. the point is to bring awareness to why you should be respectful about it.
