please don’t make epoxy bongs from molds! bongs made from molds cannot be functional, even if using food grade & heat resistant resin. pipes should be coated glass with no resin near the mouthpiece or openings. smoke shouldn’t be touching the epoxy directly.
i get a ton of questions about the molds i use - i do not and will never use nor recommend using a mold. previously no mold existed for this so i wasn’t as worried but i just saw someone selling a bong mold advertised as functional - please do NOT make a completely epoxy bong
you don’t want your mouth touching the epoxy, the smoke touching it, etc. not only that, but it could also cause your piece to degrade at high temperatures. using glass gives the epoxy a foundation and prevents smoke from being exposed to it.
when making pipes it’s also essential to use heat resistant resin, it is non-negotiable especially if you are selling them. research the SDS of your epoxy before purchasing it to make sure it’s safe. stone coat for example has a heat resistance of up to 500°
countertop epoxies are usually the most chemical/heat resistant because they are exposed to that more than resin used for art, but again, before purchasing any epoxy make sure you read the SDS. as an artist/business owner, it is your responsibility to keep your customers safe.
not using heat resistant resin because it’s more expensive, not taking the precautions to cover holes, not checking the SDS, etc. can cause serious harm to the consumer. when done properly this can all be avoided, but it’s best to be as safe as possible when working with pipes
