It seems progressives, hungry for power, are lying about how MO districts were drawn and will be drawn under a bipartisan Amendment 3. Theyve lied, using millions in dark money, saying gerrymandering has occurred in our state legislative districts. Lets take a look #moleg
Prior to Dirty MO districts in MO drawn by unique process since 1966: bipartisan commission must have overwhelming agreement to draw districts. If no agreement, Supreme Court appoints judges to redraw districts. Last two maps drawn by this judicial commission
From 1966 Dems had control of State House and Senate until Rs won House in 2001 and then Senate in 03. Process of drawing districts never changed. Major policies each party stood for did, however.
Republicans won a historic amount of seats nation wide around 2010, in large part thanks to the TEA party. This was no reflection of "gerrymandering" in MO, but nation-wide trend. Again, our process of redrawing districts didnt change, Ds party platform did (abortion, #2A, tax)
"According to analyses by
Associated Press, the MO State Legislature has
efficiency gap of 5%, which while higher
than twenty-three other states, does not cross 8
percent threshold established as a partisan
gerrymander" -Princeton Election Consortium, Gerrymandering Project
More studies reflect the fact that partisan gerrymandering was not occurring in MO, despite the claims funded by out of state dark money, prior to passing of Dirty MO. in 2018, same group backing Dirty MO backed redistricting changes in other states.
In all of those states but MO, voters had a chance to pass a new plan to redraw districts in large part mirroring this unique bipartisan-judicial process MO had from 1966-2018. MO is only state that has single appointed bureaucrat in charge of drawing districts.
What is clear is that Missourians have seen party swings from D control for decades and now R control under same bipartisan system to redraw districts since 1966. Other states moved to fix their gerrymandering issues and passed a system like MO had
Millions in out of state dark money changed our state constitution. Missourians will have a say once again to finally ban lobbyist gifts (which Dirty MO commercials claimed they would do) and have a bipartisan process to redraw districts keeping all fed laws and guidance in place
