I actually thought it would be harder to step away from Twitter for a little bit. In actual fact, it was exactly what I needed to focus for a little while.
One thing that became clear quite quickly was how reliant I was on Twitter for news. The first couple of days off here (and insta) I literally had no clue what was going on in the world. It was quite blissful, but also quite worrying. Had to diversify where I got my info from.
Anyway, I've only really come back to share the fact that @AllWeDoIsVIM has released its first programme 'The Building Blocks Series'. The series looks at what I call the unsexy elements of creative entrepreneurship - business formation, accounting, contracts, etc.
The first event is next Wednesday (Oct 21st @ 7pm) & it's all about 'Registering Your Business'. We want to make sure you understand that the way you register your business impacts how you operate your business. You can register for tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/122258880603
The second event is on October 28th @ 7pm and it's all about managing your money as a freelancer or first time entrepreneur. Let's keep your house in order and records in check! You can register for tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/122266505409
Next up is Creative Law & Order on November 4th @ 7:30pm & this one will be especially useful to those who are in the business of creating content. This session will give you an overview of IP, licensing & brand contracts. Register for tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/122283295629
And the last in the series is Branding 101 on November 11th. What the heck is branding anyway and how do you develop a brand without the backing of large branding agencies? This session will cover that! Register for tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/122283761021
This programme is in beta, we're testing things out and therefore only making a small amount of tickets available. However, registration is free :) would really appreciate your feedback at the end of it though! I want to know what worked and how we could have made it better.
When I released our research project in July - August (though it's still live & I'd still love to hear from you: https://visualiseinmotion.typeform.com/to/Dxk6vT ) I was able to get so much clarity. It was reassuring to know that what I had planned actually resonated with people.
I'll also add that the creation of that survey was months in the making. I'm talking 6 months of consideration and planning. So much care went into the framing of those questions, thinking about what it was I really wanted to find out, etc. So if you took part, shared, thank you!
It's the researcher in me, but 30% of it was also the procrastinator and imposter living rent free in my head, but that's an episode on our podcast I'm producing and blog post I'm writing.
I'm learning at record speed. I'm constantly having new found respect for 1 wo(man) band designers, strategists, copywriters, social media managers, podcast producers, etc. You lot are really next level and I salute you.
Nothing is perfect, but at least it's getting done. That's my philosophy at the moment. You'll have to deal with rough around the edges for now - I'm just happy to have something to share that I can tidy up as I go along 🤷🏾‍♀️
In the meantime, sharing the links to the events in this thread would be much appreciated. I hope everyone is keeping safe, this world is still crazy and everyone is apparently still mad 🤷🏾‍♀️
