Today in @CommonsDCMS I challenged the Culture Secretary over his false claims that two-thirds of self-employed people have been helped by the government. All research by organisations like @WeAreTheMU shows only a third have received any help. (1/4)
To press the point home to Oliver Dowden. I read out a letter from a talented musician who is seriously thinking of selling her instruments, as like many freelancers, she was unfairly deemed ineligible for the government's self-employed support scheme. (2/4)
Sadly the Culture Secretary still seems to be towing the government line on help for those in the creative industries. (3/4)
I told him to stop listening to Ministers and see the reality on the ground - two-thirds of freelancers in the creative industries are not getting any help. They are real people, living real lives and making a real contribution to our society. (4/4)
