Would it be so bad if European football called the big teams' bluff and said, "fine leave." You lose 20 or so super clubs and then get rid of this infernal debate that's been raging for 2 decades now. They just play each other over and over. No players on national teams either.
Reformulate rules on domestic and european level for the rest with strict cost controls, spending limits in order to drive greater competition with long term security at the heart. Shouldn't be that hard.
You only have to look at the results of top leagues to know that the biggest and best clubs are so far out of reach for everyone else. Let them play each other, and enjoy a more competitive domestic environment. Might suit all parties.
