Thread: A sacrosanct element of American democracy is the secret ballot. Voter intimidation is still a real threat, but we know once we're in the booth it's up to the individual alone. I'm exposing my choices here, because I want to draw attention to down ballot races... 1/18
These local elections probably impact your life more directly than any national races. There are great resources available to help:
@courierjournal - local journalism matters!
@kftc - KYians for the Commonwealth
@GLIChamber - Greater Louisville Inc
2/18 http://elections.jeffersoncountyclerk.org/
You can also get great information either from your own county's clerk website or from @KYSecState's website.

I live in Hurstbourne Acres so my ballot is:
US House - 3rd
KY House - 32nd
Metro Council - 18th
Jeff Co. School Board - 7th
3/18
https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/ovrweb/govoteky
My choices:

National - President/VP - Biden/Harris (D)
- The only rational choice for bringing our nation back from the brink of absolute disaster. I've always appreciated Biden's congeniality and moderate approach.
4/18
National - US Senate - Amy McGrath (D)
- Mitch is a KY senator who doesn't seem to care much for KY. He has his own agenda which is partially to blame for the disaster we're in. McGrath doesn't always impress, but she's capable and would reliably support good policy. 5/18
National - US House 3rd - John Yarmuth (D)
- There's a reason he garners 70% of the vote. Good, reliable supporter of his district. If you look at his opponent's (Rhonda Palazzo) Facebook/website, you will find a Trump fever dream of epic proportions. 6/18
State - KY House 32nd - Tina Bojanowski (D)
- Tina unseated Phil Moffett (read up on this guy, hoo boy) in 2018 as part of the wave of teachers. Tina is a former educator, while her opponent (Rounsavall) thinks JCPS can cut/slash its way to success. 7/18
County - Metro Council 18 - Mera Kathryn Corlett (D)
- I'll never forget Marilyn Parker plopping a Kroger bag of "against Lou City stadium" notes on the desk as evidence for why it was a bad idea. She is an unserious person.
8/18
County - Metro 18 (cont.)
- Mera Kathryn Corlett has spent her life in public service, interacting with educators and students through her work for Commonwealth Theatre Center. Progressive and dedicated to the city and county. 9/18
County - School Board 7th - Sara Cole McIntosh
- McIntosh is an educator, supports the tax increase, proper funding, and equal opportunities. Her opponent (Tammy Stewart) seems to be lost in several Trump conspiracy theories and thinks cut/slash is the path to success. 10/18
County Commissioner
This office manages property, foreclosures proceedings, etc. Obscure, but important as gentrification and low income housing heat up. "C" district has Kathleen Parks running unopposed. Parks is active in BLM, and is the right kind of person for this role 11/18
Judicial - Circuit Court - Family 30th/3rd
Filling an unexpired term, Deborah Deweese retired after 25 years on the bench.

Lori Goodwin has worked with the Legal Aid Society. The other two candidates were either in private practice or prosecuting. 13/18
City of Hurstbourne Acres
A small city in which I've never encountered a major issue. Be active in your local community, attend meetings!
I'll be voting for the incumbents:
Eskridge
Nichols
Renninger
Bohnenkamp
14/18
JCPS taxy levy
- Yes, a million times yes. Anyone who says the way to fix schools is to defund them and send the money to private institutions is an unserious person. Please support your public schools, then pay attention to ensure their proper management by the board 15/18
Constitution Amendment 1 - Marsy's Law
- No

It's easy to get caught up in the emotion. Of course victims of crime, especially domestic, deserve the right to protect their safety. This amendment doesn't do so properly and comes with unintended consequences. I'm voting no. 16/18
If you made it to the end of this thread, congratulations! You get...democracy! Yay!

Anyway, fucking vote. Do it now, but do your research first. The only good voter is a properly informed voter.

18/18
