Boarding schools as an entire concept should be done away with but until then let those kids have phones. I don't understand how ya'll can sit and act like schools are 100% transparent and nothing shaddy goes on behind those lil prisons.
Everytime talks of highschool come up I'm automatically transported back to what were a collection of my worse experiences in life. I'm going to be middle aged on my therapists couch still unpacking shit from those 4 years.
One thing that always scared me shitless was the dismissive attitude towards students health in that school. Every medical problem was treated as some theatrical exaggeration and girls would be kept in school as their health continuously deteriorated
Somehow needing medical care was synonymous with trying to cut class. So instead of getting proper medical attention what we got was "care" from a school nurse whose qualifications bordered on dubious.
Her refusal to contact students guardians for fear of butting heads with the administration were only made worse by her insistence on dispensing paracetamol to cure everything. Year in and year out we got to helplessly watch as our friends' health deteriorated
A girl whose cramps were an exaggeration that paracetamol could fix ended up having to undergo surgery to remove huge fibroids
My friend was on a religious dose of paracetamol only for her to suffer a fucking stroke after a blood clot got logged in her brain. She had barely regained mobility by the time we were doing our KCSE.
And these are only two cases out of hundreds, possibly thousands, others of medical negligence that transpired in just one school. Worst part is medical negligence isn't the only type of abuse children suffer in those schools.
Locking children away from the rest of the world to "focus on their education" is some twisted shit that needs to be done away with completely. Giving them phones is the first step of many. Let kids communicate to the outside!!!
