I love that English people are so snooty about American actors doing English accents, but English actors can only ever do New York or Southern accents and never a baseline American accent

My apologies to Southerners, you’re right, a lot of them can’t even do southern accents very well. Especially when there are so many different southern accents

Also baseline general American accent is a contested and problematic term, but it IS something you‘re taught in speech classes if you are an American who goes to any kind of drama school. Think newscasters, or the way people from the very mid US, like Nebraska, tend to talk.

Brits taking offense need to realize 1) I am not a patriotic person at all and there is almost nothing else inherently American that I will defend, and 2) pretty much all media I consume is British, Irish, or Commonwealth, and it’s what I tweet about 80% of the time

If you are British and can think of any American actors who actually do any decent British accents, feel free to let me know. I’m obviously not the best judge
