• The carvings of the Khujraho Temple in MP built in the time period between 950 AD and 1050 AD by the Rajput Chandela dynasty in a way represents prevalence of same sex relationships in those times.

• In ancient Hindu Mythology, Subhala Milana used to cross dress as a pastime. Subhala who was a male used to dress in female attire. He used to swap clothing with Radharani who in return used to dress like Subhala.

• There is also a tale of Shikhandi featured in the Mahabharata. So Shikhandi was born a woman originally named Shikhandini but raised as a man. Later arranged to marry a woman but when the woman found out the truth she insulted him and he fled.

• Resulting which he met a yaksha who agreed to exchange his gender for a night. Following which Shikhandini was transformed into a man who then returned back to his wife and consummated their marriage.

• Ancient Hindu Societies did not consider homosexuality a sin. In fact, a medical text dating back to 600 BC mentions two types of homosexual men. Kumbhika (men who take the passive role in anal sex) and Asekya (men who devour semen of other men)

• Apparently in regard to the month of Kartika and Diwali that when Lord Rama was exiled from Ayodhya. People of third gender (transgender) patiently held a vigil for him outside the city during his entire exile. The Lord was thus especially pleased and offered them blessings.

There's a story about Karttikeya ( Hindu God Of War) He was born when Lord Agni, the God of Fire took semen from one of the principal dieties Lord Shiva.

• It is sad and quite ironic that India has only decriminalized homosexuality in 2018 which was originally criminalized by the Brits in 1861 who then went on to decriminalize it themselves in 1967. Hope that the SC makes the right decision today to restore our true culture.

And to let people live and love freely. This was written merely to spread awareness, promote rights for the LGBTQ community and share historical tidbits. Not to promote or look down upon any religion.
