Weird things about English that irritate me, a thread:

The native speaker fallacy. As a TCK postcolonial child, this needs to be said.

This isn't just weird -- it's racist and exploitative.

"Speakerships" - as -ship is supposed to talk about the condition, it bothers me that "speakerships" is considered a count noun. I am sure that a careful diagram would show that this can serve a specific purpose the way "foods" does, but it BOTHERS ME.

The rules of spelling with middle double consonants.

The fineprint with the rules of syllabication in English that is only taught in graduate studies, making me feel like my life was a lie (as if I don't already feel that, oops, tmi, next!).

Skeletal vs skeleton crew. THIS SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE. And this proves that sometimes non-whites make English better, fools.

Unpopular opinion: I hate the semi-colon. I find it tentative and undecided. It's the softboi of punctuation marks.
