I spent 2 weeks pitching my article about Black women being subjected to cyberattacks to 75+ editors & I either got rejected, told that the US election is a bigger priority, OR that it wasn't interesting. I thought y'all said you wanted to amplify Black voices? #PROTECTBLACKWOMEN
These major publications like to hop on the K-pop wave only to push out fluff pieces to pander for engagement yet when Black women who are FANS of this industry are being subjected to violent racism & cyber crimes as a result of being a fan... it's not interesting to them. Girl..
They're willing to write articles about how K-pop fans were promoting the #BlackLivesMatter movement & trolling Tr*mp, but when it comes to calling out toxic fan behaviour, racism, cyber attacks, they're nowhere to be found. What kind of journalism is this? Why are y'all SCARED?
Is it everyday pandering to K-pop fans? Is it everyday? What do you gain from being a muppet? No one is asking you to write belligerent, tone-deaf, or xenophobic pieces. What we want is TRANSPARENCY. If you're going to use your platform to dissect the industry, do it honestly.
What if I didn't have http://SouthSonder.com ? Why did it take me having to create my OWN platform in order to get these stories out? If you can run a story about "How The K-pop Fans Are Taking Over the World," you can discuss Black, K-pop fans being subjected to VIOLENCE online.
It's very demoralizing that we literally have to BEG for people to see our humanity and raise awareness about what we are going through. Black girls of all ages are being subjected to violent racism, cyber attacks, and threats of ass*ssn*tion and people aren't discussing it..
These major publications are looking for trauma p0rn and stories about racism, but there's more to racism than police brutality. It's ALSO disparities in education, the judicial system, medical malpractice, etc. But, it's ALSO the influx of cyber crimes against Black women.
