Short Thread: Project Bigger Picture’ will not benefit anyone but the ‘big six’ clubs in England in the long-run.

EFL clubs need help but the Premier League are essentially using it as a bribe.

This project, if it goes through, will do the following...
◼️ Cut the Premier League from 20 teams to 18, meaning that 2 clubs will lose their professional status.

◼️ League Cup & Community Shield will be axed - leaving more room for PL clubs to organise lucrative friendly tournaments. EFL clubs lose out on League Cup opportunities.
◼️ Season to start at a later date, again providing the opportunity for more friendly games and a longer pre-season.

◼️ Alignment of FFP rules with UEFA, which essentially ring fences the already established clubs.

Now, here’s the key one...
◼️ At the moment, the voting system on all decisions (and this has been used in the pandemic too), are done on a majority vote of 14 teams.

Should the proposed change happen, that will change, essentially giving the ‘big six’ plus Everton, Soton & West Ham special voting rights.
This would mean that anything put to a vote would only need 6 of those 9 teams with ‘special rights’ to vote it through.

This could impact English football in any way you can imagine. The big six can essentially make any decision they want to as they’d hold the cards.
That means all of the below can potentially happen once they have power;

Euro League, higher TV revenues exclusively for the big 6, other league changes, abolishment of cups, introduction of other tournaments and pretty much anything else you can realistically think of.
Project Bigger Picture isn’t about saving the EFL. It isn’t about preserving English football or doing it for the fans, who are clearly just an afterthought.

This is the big 6, primarily United & Liverpool, protecting themselves whilst lining their pockets.
If this happens and I really, really hope it doesn’t, English football is dead.

It won’t happen overnight. The change will be gradual but the power will be in the hands of foreign owners with no objective other than making themselves richer.
