On the purported failings of the #OctoberRevolution:

Over the past year, the greatest ploy of the 'ruling class' in #Lebanon has been the propagation of a conviction among the people that the October revolution failed, or that indeed there was no real revolution..

Regrettably, this ploy was aided by some groups within the revolution itself, who knowingly or otherwise partook in spreading the narrative of the 'failed revolution'.

But did the revolution truly fail?!

In the least, it lead to the resignation of Hariri's cabinet, & arguably also to the resignation of Diab's (vitrine) cabinet..
That's 2 cabinet resignations under street pressure in 1 year!

More centrally: the revolution brought to the forefront the dire need for tangible reforms & accountability, the urgency to curb the rampant corruption & bring the culprits to justice.
It rose up against them all without exemption..

& consequently forced them all, without exception, to adopt the very demands of the revolution! Granted, they are lying hypocrites whose words & promises aren't worth the paper they're not printed on! But the fact they all felt obliged to adopt the language of the revolution

speaks clearly enough of its impact.

The revolution exposed the thieving thugs both locally & globally, & showed them off in their true colors. & exposing corruption & embezzlement & jobbery has become a regular feature on the scene in Lebanon..

The exercise of freedom of thought & expression has never been so widely spread, breaking barriers, challenging taboos, & standing up to every & any attempt to silence such exercise of freedom.. That too is an outcome of the revolution..

Heightened political awareness, public discussions of fiscal & economic policies, of local & foreign policy, & an increased accessibility to relevant analysis & information, that too is a consequence of the revolution..

All that & much more is the impact of the October revolution... It did not fail.
Perhaps it did indeed stop short, or fall short of realizing its aims & goals..
But it did not fail, don't allow them to convince you otherwise :)

There is more to be done, much more perhaps, but only once we realize what has already been done, & if we still believe that more can yet be done..
If we don't, then we would ourselves be the very undoing of the October revolution & its ultimate failure...
