On Sunday, PPB escorted white nationalists and took no action after their assaults on citizens.

Later @ChiefCLovell and @tedwheeler decried a Indigenous protest that resulted in no injury.

I asked PPB about the white supremacists event.

The official response...

(1/?)
Q: Man later shown to be from out of state, illegally carrying a loaded assault rifle. Did PPB contact and confirm license and legality?

PPB: "I have not seen this video, so I can’t confirm whether your assertions are true."
Q: Video shows him verbally assaulting people. Was this addressed?

PPB: "There is no such crime as verbal assault."

Note: State laws to consider verbal assault under Sexual Assault, Hate Crime, and other statutes.
Q: Reports from the ground are that he was aiming this rifle at people. Did PPB address?

PPB: "As of yesterday, we received no reports from anyone saying this took place. If it did, depending on the circumstances, it may constitute a crime. "
Q: Video also shows this group throwing items from a height at people, injuring some. It then shows PPB entering the garage. Can you confirm the citation or arrests that were made?
PPB: "No citations were issued or arrests made. The sergeant on scene did say he saw items thrown from both sides toward the other. There were also reports of paintball guns being shot. But again, no one reported being a victim."
Apparently PPB can witness a crime but need sometime to tell them they are hurt to do anything.
Q: Video shows the vehicles of these protestors having removed their plates or obscured them. It also shows them driving by officers. Can you confirm how many citations or arrests were made for this?
PPB: "No citations or arrests. Obscuring plates would be a traffic violation if the vehicle was on a public road. But there were limited resources available and the officers were focused on preventing violence as much as possible...
"...Keeping two groups apart who are intent on confronting each other is very challenging."
Q: Video shows PPB allowing these protestors to leave the garage. Can you confirm PPB plans to follow up with those protestors and cite later?
PPB: "The supervisor on scene was concerned about the two groups continuing to start fights with each other. As the intensity of the confrontations increased, one group tried to leave..."
"...It presented an opportunity to end the conflict, so the sergeant allowed them to leave as quickly as possible. "
Q: Video also shows Skyler(sic) Jernigan was present. He was arrested prior for shooting a gun out of a moving vehicle at a similar event. Can you confirm that PPB made contact and cited or arrested him for violation of parole/probation?
PPB: "That would fall to his Parole and Probation Officer. It is not typically our role to enforce parole or probation violations, as we are rarely privy to the conditions imposed on them. "
Q: How many total arrests or citations were made during this event?

PPB: "Answered previously. "
So...

PPB confirms they witnessed crime and chose to take no action.

Why? "We saw an assault but the person who got hurt didn't tell us they got hurt."

Why? "We know they were breaking law but its safer to let them go. No plan to cite later or investigate."
While later, Indig. and Black march damaged property and riot cops, arrests, Mayor and Chief press conf, and call actions "obscene" plus no mention of white supremacist actions.
