You know what this Magical Girl Friendship Squad show reminds me of? There's this one scene in Cobra Kai that parodies this to a T.
(SPOILERS AHEAD)
Basically, the two protagonists, Johnny and Daniel, create their own karate schools. Daniel's is more traditional to what Miyagi taught him, while Johnny's is what he was taught as a kid in Cobra Kai and focuses more on violence- after all, their motto is "Strike first."
What I'm trying to say is that most of us look at things from a Western lens and forget to look deeper into what that means for culture.

Magical Girl Friendship Squad is a "homage" to the Magical Girl topic of anime, but it only focuses on the superficial things.
It doesn't try to get deep into what the genre means and instead abandons it for the same old quirky humor we've had for years. It has a lot of potential, but it wastes it.
