ok ok ok yall ready for me to go on my daily ramblings about the DreamSMP bc im a writer with too many Thoughts but not enough motivation to Word Them Properly?? let's go +
+ so this is going to be on Wilbur and Dream, because I find them really interesting foils on the SMP for a variety of reasons (i will be referring to them by their personas in this narrative, not them as Actual People, for the entirety of this thread) +
+ and as with all foils, you can tell that there's a lot of really obvious similarities between them. Both are leaders of their own lands and have people looking to them for insight, guidance, and direction. Both have pretty heavy responsibilities as a result. +
+ Personality-wise, on the SMP, both tend to be a bit on the colder side, but can be very heated if prompted. Both are the faces of their respective sides - Dream for DreamSMP, Wilbur for L'manburg +
+ but again, as with all foils, there are some very obvious differences as well. You can see it in their outfits--Wilbur's complex, aesthetically pleasing skins vs. Dream's garish, simple bright green, Wilbur's insistence on not wearing armor and lack of any gear at +
+ any given time, vs Dream's full netherite and fully stacked arsenal in his inventory literally wherever he goes. The best way I can put their differences, in a way that pretty fully encompasses all of them, is that Wilbur is a person of words while Dream is one of action. +
Just looking at their lands themselves you can actually see this pretty clearly. DreamSMP, as far as things go on this server, is actually pretty organized. The Community House, the Nether Hub, the Tree Farm, the Path - these are all elements of organization +
+ that are for the Community, not just for one person, and they're all part of the DreamSMP. Even more significantly, I think, is that all of these things I mentioned were either directly created or commissioned by Dream. He made the community house with george, +
+ got rid of the mountain and terraformed the entire Nether area as well as making the paths from the portal in the Nether, paid Alyssa in diamonds to make the Tree Farm after collecting the saplings himself, made the Prime Path himself - these are all things that Dream himself +
+ put effort into. As far as other "community" creations, the original Courthouse was made primarily by Sapnap but he helped as well with the redstone, and they all worked together to build Church Prime and the Holy Land. Overall, Dream has been pretty active in the improvement +
+ of his own land. On the other hand, L'manburg is,,, not very organized? part of it is because of its size, but after the walls were torn down by Schlatt the whole thing didn't really look like much of a country at all. The community aspects of L'manburg were largely made by +
+ other people - Eret made the walls, Tubbo made the bunker and docks, Tommy made the path leading to L'manburg - and where is Wilbur?
I mean, he made the drug van in the middle of L'manburg, which was the start of it all in the first place, but besides that he's made very +

little in L'manburg at all. Most of what he's contributed to L'manburg is words - the Declaration of Independance, the Peace Treaty. After the war, he didn't make much in L'manburg. Say what you want about Schlatt, he's honestly done more as far as +

+ most of the other members of the SMP. When they were in L'manburg, they were working on things that did not have Wilbur's hand in them at all, basically. As far as things that Wilbur has actually *done* in L'manburg following their independence? I'd argue that he's done +
+ quite little. Going onto the war for revolution, here, again, we see Dream taking a very active leadership role. Watching both his stream before the war and Punz's video during it, Dream takes the lead as far as what his nation will do. Again, you can argue whatever +
+ as far as who was morally right in the war, but as far as leadership Dream stepped up on his side - he instructed Sapnap in what to do to prepare for war, rigged the place with TNT, talked to Eret to establish an alliance, and outlined their plans of attack +
+ for the actual fighting. He predicts what L'manburg will do and plans accordingly, sets up several backup plans, helps gear up his members, etc. On the other hand, during the war, it's hard to see Wilbur as even being the leader of his side at all. He's not well geared +
+ and needs the support of his other members that are more stacked than him, they hide away in Tommy's house, he doesn't seem to have much a plan for the entirety of the fight. In the end, Tommy's the one that wins them their independence twice over. Not only is Tommy +
+ the first to offer up his life in exchange for independence, when that fails, he offers the things most valuable to him. In all of this, Wilbur doesn't actually *do* very much. He speaks, yes, he gives words of encouragement and yells at Dream and calms Tommy +
+ but it's Tommy's actions that win them L'manburg. Not Wilbur's.
The differences are even seen in the ways they communicate - Dream doesn't join vc very often, usually talking through the in-game chat or minecraft BOOKS for some reason. Wilbur gives long speeches +
The differences are even seen in the ways they communicate - Dream doesn't join vc very often, usually talking through the in-game chat or minecraft BOOKS for some reason. Wilbur gives long speeches +
+ and monologues, Dream gives short, simple answers and questions through the chat. It's an interesting detail - not necessarily something big or significant, but one more thing to highlight the differences between them. +
+ So I think it is this, more than anything, that caused the fall of L'manburg. Because take off the walls, and what Was L'manburg?
It looked - sad, almost barren. The closest thing to structure was Jack's house. Without its walls, it hardly looked like a country at all. +

+ heck, it didn't even look like very many people lived there. Dream SMP is instantly recognizable - Eret's Castle, the Community House, the Path. L'manburg, right after the walls came down,, looked barely like anything. +
And this fits, right? DreamSMP rose quietly. There were no wars, no inagurations, no big flashy things that happened. There was just one stream: we're making the community house. Another: we're making the nether hub. Another: im making the path. +
