I see artists complaining about not getting enough interactions / followers / traction on twitter every single day.
It's time to stop crying and start acting.

How to beat the algorithm : A thread.
1/
Your timeline is arranged around three main elements :
🔹Reverse-chronological order
🔹"In case you missed it" tweets
🔹Tweets chosen by the algorithm

We will mainly look at the third one, and a tiny bit at the second too. Let's dive in.
2/
In 2017, twitter introduced the ranking system to remedy to the issues caused by every tweet being arranged by reverse-chronological order. As the platform grew, this way of showing content was not viable anymore.

So what is ranking and how does it work ?
3/
Ranking is basically the algorithm trying to predict how interesting and engaging a tweet would be to a particular user : Giving it a score, to then gather several high-scoring tweets that will show at the top of your timeline.

Let's see what influences these scores :
4/
Ranking is mainly calculated based on :
🔹Content
🔹Past interactions with its author (strength of connection)
🔹Similarities with other tweets you found engaging in the past
🔹Recency / time of publication
🔹Media
🔹Author's activity

And other smaller parameters.
5/
Even if the algorithm is, by necessity, organic and evolves constantly, there are a few things that can be done in a consistent fashion to obtain better engagement.

Following are a few tips as to how you can do that.
6/
🔹Post at relevant times for your audience.
🔹Make engaging content, interact with your followers
🔹Respond to engagement quickly
🔹Use media (images, videos..)
🔹RT your content (wisely : Don't spam it !)
🔹Use RELEVANT trending hashtags
🔹Engage with others !
7/
Now I also want to point to the fact that it also comes down to your content : If you're a visual artist, work those hard skills!
Be a part of the community : Don't try to just glide on it.
Support other artists. Acknowledge the people who support you. Be a decent human being.
8/
Grow WITH other artists, not against them. Don't try to catch up with bigger accounts. And don't obsess over numbers. They are important, yes, but having five, dedicated followers is better than having 10K anonymous randos who don't care about your work
9/
Last but not least, to every person who supports my work, financially or through engagement, to all the artists on this journey with me, to the lurkers too (I see you !)
You're the reason I finally reached my dream job (you, and a lot of work too)
Thank you ❤️
