I would like to point out two things in the first day of early voting for Texas. Two of the state’s most prominent Black women artists have spoken out.
These two piece were released during one of the most controversial elections in Texas. Both @theestallion and @solangeknowles are from a state where the election “will chart the state’s political future for a generation”. ( @by_jmiller for @TexasObserver)
They’re also from one of the many cities in Texas where there have been issues around voter suppression.
Beyond artistry Black women have always worked for voting rights and against voter suppression. It’s interesting to see two global stars from Harris County speak up right now. Particularly interested in seeing if @Beyonce is going to pull up one of these early voting days.
Particularly thinking about Black feminist leaders in Texas and the powerhouse that was Barbara Jordan.

I like the word “particularly,” leave me alone or get this work 🤷🏽‍♀️😭
A lot of people will see this thread and think that it’s a reach, but when you’re aware of how Black art moves the people of this state then you understand. And yes, I am alluding to TX’s hip hop scene (specifically in HTX) but that’s another voting convo for another time.
