Watching a bunch of Trey Lance since last night
- Most athletic player on the field @ NDSU
- Big time arm
- Throws in rhythm when it’s wide open
- Haven’t seen him attempt tight window pass. So far shy’s away from it
- Likes to see guys open
- Locks on 1st read. will force it
So far this is maybe the only time I've seen his head start looking one way and not throwing that way. Going through reads or manipulating coverage? Either way this was solid.
Just started my 3rd game. Playing against Deleware. Love how they play under center so much. Very rare in college. Definitely see that head moving. Contradicting my previous statement of him locking on receivers.
Throws an amazing deep ball. Great job looking off the safety. I've seen enough of his deep throws. I want to see him drive passes over the middle into tight windows. Haven't seen one of those throws yet.
Ok. I've been waiting for this. Slightly behind the receiver. That'll eliminate catch and run opportunities but at least he threw it. Maybe trying to keep the receiver away from oncoming defender? 1st time I've seen him attempt it in 3 games. I like it.
Nice throw over the overhang defender. To get the ball up and down with touch! Lance definitely does it all. I havent even posted any of his runs. Best athlete on the field. I dont want to compare him to Cam Newton but yeah, He looks like the FCS version of Cam. But better passer
Maybe not as strong an arm is Cam cuz his arm was ridiculous lol. Lance's arm is really good though. But when I say better passer I mean more consistent of a passer. Don't see the random misses.... so far
I asked my bro if he thought Lance got the receiver down on purpose. He said no. Said he didn't think he saw #9. Thinks Lance could improve on bringing his hips through to drive the ball.
Miss here. Probably trying to put it in a spot where only his receiver could get it. But when we talk about traits. Getting out the pocket... hips and shoulders around rolling to his left and with how much velocity he threw with. Nice to see
Even nicer to see. Under center.. play action. Slot fade throw to where only his receiver could catch it. 1 foot good for a td in college. Big time. By him and the receiver.
Why'd he shy away from this throw? Got what he wanted. Slant wide open in the window and he's looking that way. He waits until the receiver cleared and then decided to check it down. Throw in that window. Huge catch and run opportunity.
Still shot of the window. That has to be the read right? Read that backer. If he stays in the window, check it down. If he does what you want which is come down, It's a big ass window. Throw that.
I wasn't expecting to do a thread lol
I'll continue to watch more of Lance. I think at one point or another he shows everything you want to see from a top tier QB. His game was very consistent over the games I watched. Huge upside. Would like to see more tight window throws. NFL has much tighter coverage than FCS.
After seeing the strides Josh Allen has taken and how Justin Herbert has started, take the big arm athletic QB , structure a game plan around that skillset while building on it for the future. Higher upside. I'll watch the other QB's to really compare their games.
