Can people please stop using bara when they mean geicomi? Bara is still a slur to MANY Japanese mlm and many gay mangaka already expressed how uncomfortable they feel with the term being used as a genre. I know this comes from misinformation but please.... It's not that hard.
If you want to refer to the body type, I'd recommend using gachimuchi (ガチムチ) instead. I won't deny some people do use bara here but since it haven't been fully reclaimed by Japanese gay men, it's really uncomfortable to see it thrown around here so often.
Also decided to read the Wikipedia English page on "bara" and not only they mention it's not used/well accepted in Japan, they also bring this super interesting bit of info! I was positively surprised, because the distinction between BL and geicomi is really getting blurred.
Still irks me they calling it "yaoi" but on the page about Yaoi they recognize it's an English term and it's all BL in Japan.... So that's good too.
Also seeing so many people saying "I didn't know about this!" I'm sorry I didn't mean to drag you
this is because I see a lot of "BL experts" trying to police others without even using the proper term.... The least you can do when trying to be an expert is know the difference!

Last tweet: I'm fairly ok with other mlm using it as long as they're aware of its history in Japan (but that's me). I don't think using it to refer to the body type is a crime too. The only thing I really dislike is the geicomi = bara thing, because many mangaka are against it.
