disclaimer: with this thread I’m not trying to say that hufflepuff is the best house or anything like that, I’m just trying to appreciate my house more because it deserves it!!

Hufflepuff is one of the four houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The emblematic animal is a badger, and yellow and black the house colors.

Hufflepuff corresponds roughly to the element of earth, and it is for that reason that the House colours were chosen: yellow represented wheat, while black was emblematic of soil.

Students sorted into Hufflepuff often demonstrate exceptional abilities in Herbology, owing to their correspondence to earth.

The common room is a large, earthy, round room with low ceilings. The view from the round windows is of dandelions and rippling grass. The decor emphasises the earthy-feel of the room with plants hanging and resting all about the room, some that even sing and dance.

Students belonging to this house are known to be hard-working, friendly, loyal, honest and rather impartial. They are not as competitive as the other houses, and are more modest about their accomplishments.

Where Gryffindor, Slytherin and even Ravenclaw strive to make their houses feel like an exclusive club, Hufflepuff has what is essentially a doors open policy. As the sorting hat’s song in ootp explained, Hufflepuff believes in “teaching the lot and treating them just the same.”

Hufflepuff is the most inclusive among the four houses: valuing hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play rather than a particular aptitude in its students. They are known to have a strong moral code, and a sense of right and wrong.

A Hufflepuff’s patience, kindness and reliability make them excellent people, humble to a fault, and loyal to a tee.

They are usually accepting of everyone and are known to value and treat everyone as equal <3

Hufflepuff firmly demonstrated its loyalty during the battle of Hogwarts, when they were second only to Harry Potter’s own house of Gryffindor in the number of students willing to stay and fight against Lord Voldemort.

Hufflepuff is the house that produced the fewest dark wizards throughout its history. Their cheerful and friendly demeanour can probably account for this property of the House.

Some known Hufflepuffs:

The famous Magizoologist 𝑵𝒆𝒘𝒕𝒐𝒏 𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓, in 1918 he was commissioned by Augustus Worme to write Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The book became a best-seller, making Scamander a respected expert in the field of Magizoology.

𝑵𝒚𝒎𝒑𝒉𝒂𝒅𝒐𝒓𝒂 𝑻𝒐𝒏𝒌𝒔, auror and member of the second order of the phoenix. she bravely fought in the Battle of the Department of Mysterys, and later in the Battle of the Astronomy Tower. On May 2nd 1998 she fought in the Battle of Hogwarts and was murdered.

𝑪𝒆𝒅𝒓𝒊𝒄 𝑫𝒊𝒈𝒈𝒐𝒓𝒚, prefect during his fifth year, captain and seeker of the Hufflepuff quidditch team, former Triwizard Champion who was killed at the age of 17 by Peter Pettigrew, under orders of Lord Voldemort, on june 24th 1995.

𝑯𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒂𝒉 𝑨𝒃𝒃𝒐𝒕𝒕, prefect during her fifth year and member of the dumbledore’s army, she fought during the battle of Hogwarts and years later became the owner of the Leaky Cauldron.

𝑺𝒖𝒔𝒂𝒏 𝑩𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔, her entire family was murdered personally by Lord Voldemort during the first wizarding war. In her fifth year Susan became a member of Dumbledore’s army. She fought along side her fellow D.A. members in the Battle of Hogwarts.

A great number of exceptionally skilled witches and wizards also have their origins on this house, including former minister of magic 𝑨𝒓𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒂 𝑳𝒖𝒇𝒌𝒊𝒏 and former arithmancer 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝑾𝒆𝒏𝒍𝒐𝒄𝒌.

𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒖𝒔 𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓, first world war veteran and head of the auror office in 1927.
