Democrats signature piece of legislation this century was a health insurance plan from a conservative think tank, implemented first by a GOP governor. When they held all the power, passing a Heritage Foundation piece of legislation was their highest goal. Don’t ever forget that. https://twitter.com/danteatkins/status/1315797259892805633
If Dems really are getting more progressive then why are they running on a public option, the same promise they ran on 12 years ago (and failed to implement when we elected them majorities the first time)? https://twitter.com/DanteAtkins/status/1315797259892805633
oh boy. here we go https://twitter.com/AndyNeisia/status/1316099900942307335?s=20
ONCE AGAIN, Obama specifically tried to sell this as a middle-of-the-road, bipartisan plan after specifically campaigning on a public option, which helped him win the primary (and for many of us once-enthusiastic voters of his, the presidency).
“It’s because you guys had a proven model that we built the Affordable Care Act on this template of proven bipartisan success. Your law was the model for the nation’s law.”
“oh but Obama *couldn’t* have passed the public option you see” Why? Why can’t Dem presidents pass what they ran and won on? Because many Dem senators are TOO CONSERVATIVE, you say? and that’s supposed to disprove my general argument… that Dems are too conservative?
In terms of broad and sweeping legislation, The Democratic Party will always be as “progressive” as their least progressive senator (and thus, forever beholden to them), and that’s the general problem, as we face against an increasingly psychotic GOP. https://twitter.com/merovingians/status/1316119022296018945
