Prof Finglass's admonishment – for @BMCReview
– of the support given to a PhD student on Sophocles was even-handed and kind. The angry below-line comment from the current academic director is hilarious. Funnier still: he has since included rant on his list of publications.
I bring this up because I am currently grappling with writing a review on a German PhD thesis. I feel sorry for the buggers. This forced publication in a world of rapid international reviews does no one any favours.
Personally, I'm glad my own thesis is buried away in the UL (not even listed on Ethos) and unread, to be partially recycled when necessary. I really wish sometimes the same were true of German PhD monographs. Sure it goes on the CV, but to what end?
Based on the good Direktor's logic, can I now add this thread to my publication list?
