I'll be tweeting from the virtual #MapCamp conf today. Maps are helpful to discuss, visualise & succeed 'digital transformation' in gov & business.
Check this intro if you're curious or new to mapping:
https://www.map-camp.com/_pages/what_is_mapping/

PS: Follow @swardley for his 'mirror stories' too.
When will well-known consulting firms start branding their methodologies so refreshingly true as @MrsDHW: "Wardley maps are useful because they are broadly right but precisely wrong." #MapCamp
. @kb2bkb uses 'blind elephant' metaphor to explain how Wardley mapping brings together people & their experience/observations from different contexts/points of view within an organisation. It's about sense-making & making the outcome of (90 minutes sessions) tangible! #MapCamp
Ironically UK Land registry was initially critical to mapping..

@mcraddock "Mapping got me fired twice..but also helped build patent court system for only 800k£"

Legal culture lesson:
DE: IF not in the rules, THEN you CAN NOT do it.
UK: IF not in the rules, THEN you CAN do it.
Using #MapCamp coffee break to check on @kb2bkb's reference to another sense-making framework: "Cynefin" (Welsh word for habitat) used to aid decision-making in (large) organisations by drawing on the complex, complicated, chaotic and obvious:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cynefin_framework
@swardley: "Innovation is such a bad word you might as well call everything cheese" as it is used to label everything from genesis to features.. #mapcamp

Misusing this quote to share the "innovative" Swiss Cheese model to communicate Covid19 measures in a clear visualisation.
It's worth noting that this Swiss communication is humble and open about imperfections of individual actions (as @RoserPujades1 also states about Wardley maps). It helps to facilitate communication about a complex system and collaboratively adopt/embrace decisions. #MapCamp
Sorry for messing up Roser's handle: @RoserPujadas1 and thanks for sharing her great slides and insights in the "Why didn't you learn this at (business) school?" session.
Fellow Machine Learning pros who struggle to discuss/communicate across teams or translate towards customers and end-users, I suggest to follow @latticecut who uses Wardley Maps to explain the difference between Learning and Prediction loops..
#MapCamp
. @latticecut cleverly uses the difficulty of mapping high dimensional space (eg Lidar point clouds of tree forests) and the need for academic normalisation of values on axis to bridge to that 'other' multi-dimensional diagram of Nobel prize winner for Roger Penrose :)
