On this day in 1991 my brother was killed on the M6 near Warrington by a dangerous driver who failed to stop.
The driver was reported by his girlfriend after he phoned her about it.
He was fined £1000 and got 9 points.
Thank you @NWmwaypolice for doing your best.
I'll cry now.

I'd like to add that the @NWmwaypolice were really good. They looked after us, took us to the scene to find missing belongings, talked us through the evidence, and the forthcoming inquest, and made sure we understood the limitations of the charges they could apply to the accused.
Due to lack of evidence they could only charge with 'Driving without due care and attention'. They could not prove alcohol or substance misuse because the driver wasn't apprehended at the scene.
I learnt about the accident investigation process and the evidence gathered.

Fire and faliure investigation was one of the things I did at work then, mechanical failures a special interest for me during my MechEng, funded by my brother's business at the time.
I lost my brother, my degree course, the family business and all income, and eventually my mind.

We never recovered emotionally as a family, despite moving on and changing. I don't think I will ever recover completely.
One idiot on the road is all it took.
My brother had a 'secret girlfriend' his closest friends told us. We never found out who she was, or if she ever knew.

A few days ago I finally shredded a load of paperwork from when I tried to save the family business after my brother died.
That was hard but it wasn't important anymore. I kept the stuff that was his.
Also there was stuff that told how he wasn't just a 'somebody' who died.

My brother's name is Raymond Chow 1964-1991.
Chow Square in London E8 is named after him for all the work he did in social housing and supporting the elderly and people with special needs in the community.
He wasn't perfect, but he tried, and the community remembered.

His love was rock climbing and all his climbing kit was donated to @OVMRO.
His ashes were scattered at the Milestone Buttress by Lynn Ogwyn in Snowdonia. That's where he was 'at home'.
That's what tied me to Wales then, and why I learnt to love the country.
I miss you, brother.

As well as to remember my brother I wrote this thread to consider this.
Whatever you think of the Police, their faults and mistakes, the @NWmwaypolice just trying to stop people like us from doing something stupid that puts our lives, and the lives of others, at risk.
