Costa out of all people should know his distance from Black Culture, especially when he is immersed in it. that should be one thing that jumps out at you when you’re surrounded by it, the pain that lingers that he can’t connect to. he’s still privileged and clearly abusing it https://twitter.com/doouwannaeat/status/1315923834235744256
cultural appropriation vs cultural APPRECIATION
it’s appreciative when you make sure to let people know you’re aware of your distance to a particular culture, you are not expressing it to make profit and you’re spreading awareness of the injustices committed against it.
uplifting it, not climbing on top of it. appropriation is when someone is not aware, they have something to gain and they aren’t spreading awareness. haven’t seen much of that from costa. he’s putting himself on the map via being a culture vulture.
being privileged is having options. think of some of the black bodies who aren’t strong in english or don’t know it at all. they can’t throw it into their raps the way he seasons his shit with the 11 official languages. worst part is he’s stealing flows while appropriating.
so some parts you can’t even say “ changing the game “ or being creative. dai song ke foca with a off time/twist.
