One of most important lessons I learnt in Youth work is to not let your ego control you.
1. Some youth will test you. Even if you come from similar background don't expect them to automatically respect you based on your past. Fight instinct or urge to prove you still have it. It's a lose lose. 2
2. Don't let your ego deceive you to beleive you are always the best fit or the perfect go to guy just because of your past or past achievements. Some people with less experience can get better results. And what's good for the goose isn't necessarily good for the gander.
Other youth workers don't need to be competition, you don't need to bad mouth them just because they represent another organisation or haven't got same credentials.
3. Its ok to say no or pass on a situation that is above your scope and capability. Sometimes just signpost instead of always trying to be a hero. You will eventually learn not to take on more than you can handle.
