Whelp @wordpressdotcom had the **brilliant** idea to suddenly & without warning remove access to their highly functional & straightforward "classic editor" through which I've typed every post for 5 years

instead, a confusing & nonfunctional 💩 editor I can't even use

help
I was all set to type up a "Darkstar Will Steal Dawn"script but was stopped cold in my tracks. Now I can't even work

The layout of word editing software has been stable for 30 years BECAUS IT WORKS

hiding commonly-used menu options is ALWAYS stupid @WordPress
The @wordpressdotcom "Classic Editor" made it easy to use all the common functions - they're right at the top where they've always been (and there are more that appear if you make your window wider, such as "paste as plain text," "line break," "font color" etc

the normal shit!
Where did they go?

Who the bleep over at @wordpressdotcom thought this blank white space was more useful than, you know, all the text edit options people use when editing text, which is **the main function of a text editor** holy Jesus why do I have to explain this
If you move your mouse or click in the right place, a couple options appear - but only a couple. Bold, italic, insert link. Only missing like 17 functions here
BUT WAIT! @wordpressdotcom has a solution! Spoiler alert, it's fucking awful!

If you click the plus sign to "add block," you can select the one highlighted on the lower left labelled "classic"

Spoiler alert: You aren't about to "use the classic editor" as it says, oh no
Yeah so this block of options LOOKS like the options that use to be pinned at the top of the "classic editor", but

- is inserted into the actual text, not pinned at the top
- flutters and disappears when you move your mouse
- doesn't actually work!

@WordPress what is this
Of all the cumbersome, counterintuitive interface overhauls I've seen over the years - and there's been some dandies for iTunes, let it be said - this truly takes the cake. Finding a way to make the simple act of BLOGGING incomprehensible took real genius @wordpressdotcom
