Public debate is essential to democracy. Questioning the government's actions is what democracy is all about. But these debates need to have a link to reality. Most the emails and comments showed no understanding of what the #Omnibus Bill actually will do.

The campaign on the #Omnibus bill is a classic right wing nationalist fear campaign. A campaign of division, misinformation, sprinkled with conspiracy theories, designed to undermine a public health response to the most significant public health event of our lifetimes.

When people’s actual liberty is routinely violated, do you hear from the same people? No. Are there 1000s of emails demanding the end of bail laws that have seen the prison population in Victoria rise? No. Or calling for the release of asylum seekers from arbitrary detention. No.

I have considered the #Omnibus Bill very carefully & will act in the best interests of our community. In this case that means voting at the 2nd reading so the govt's amendments can be debated. If amendments pass & concerns are addressed I'll vote for the amended bill. #springst
