Firstly, there& #39;s no "German tracing system". Every local council runs its own tracing. There& #39;s the app, which... cost more than NHS& #39;s, works the same and has no check-in. Or there& #39;s DEMIS, the database, which is better than Excel but took *5 years* to build (and still isn& #39;t done) https://twitter.com/kateahr/status/1315252045838942208">https://twitter.com/kateahr/s...
Secondly, it& #39;s not for "Track and Trace", it& #39;s for "Test and Trace". A chunk of that £12 billion will have been spent building the testing system and running tests. The gov dashboard reports 25 million processed tests - if they cost just £100 each, that& #39;s already £2.5 billion
Thirdly, why do only pubs get £100k? They& #39;re only a part of the hospitality industry. Include restaurants, cafés and takeaways, and that takes you up to £12 billion already. Hotels and other leisure stuff would be billions more https://www.ons.gov.uk/aboutus/transparencyandgovernance/freedomofinformationfoi/numberofrestaurantstakeawayscafesbarsandpubsintheuk">https://www.ons.gov.uk/aboutus/t...
Fourthly, uh... Dido Harding doesn& #39;t actually have the money. It went to NHS Test & Trace and has already been spent (a lot of it on tests). I mean, I guess you could cut £12 bn out of the NHS budget and give it to pubs, councils and Germany, but it wouldn& #39;t be popular
Anyway, apart from that, 10/10 viral tweet
