I agree to all the points made in that thread but also I’d like to add that — loving Judit’s character as this representation of a supportive ally and criticizing her problematic actions aren’t mutually exclusive. We can do both. #GayaSaPelikula
It’s not as simple as viewers just choosing to overlook the red flags because Judit is this big ball of love, humor and happiness. It could also be that, in our culture, rarely do Filipinos see a character so enthusiastically supportive of her gay brother that subconsciously,
we make a decision to set aside these potential problems and allow ourselves first to enjoy all the great things about the character. Hindi tayo mababaw na manonood. Bago sa atin lahat ito kaya ‘wag niyo rin masyadong ikalungkot na hindi kayo naging kritikal sa karakter ni Judit.
This isn’t a justification of Judit’s character but an attempt to explain our collective fondness of her. It’s not just becos of her hilarity. Or that we think she’s an ally. It’s because despite her faults, maybe, we still want a sister like Judit who embraces us wholeheartedly.
At anuba, alam naman nating lahat kung sino ang totoong kalaban— ang Vladimir Austria Fault-Finding Committee na wala ng ibang ginawa kung hindi siraan si Vlad. It’s not too late, samahan niyo ako maging Vladimir Austria Apologist. Together, we’re stronger cheka😂. #VAFFCcanchoke
