One of the things that I've seen from my former days in web entrepreneurship is that a number of the folks I used to work with as a vendor or a partner have moved onto amazing things that aren't necessarily running their own business. Many of these humans are fellow Millennials.
We all graduated into a recession and the folks older than us said "pay your dues and wait your turn." We said, "Uh, okay, but can we have an entry level job?" And they all laughed at our bachelor degrees because we were overqualified.
So you know what we did? We turned our interests in businesses. We became bloggers and digital marketers and designers and developers. We made our own jobs and made it work in the economy that we were tossed into. If no one would give us a job, we created our own.
To see those entrepreneurial folks from my Other Life find greater successes than what we could have ever dreamed possible, on their own and with other companies, is wonderful. Like, I seriously love to see it. Smart, caring, amazing humans finding success always makes me happy.
I love the reminders of Millennial grit in the face of the Great Recession. We did what we needed to do in order to survive. And now we're here. It still sucks. But we lived, bitch. We're gonna keep on livin' and help Gen Z THRIVE where we couldn't.
