So I figured I would share my opinions about our trip to Disney from people who work in healthcare’s perspective. So here’s a thread if you are interested!
To start out, please make the decision to travel based on the health and well-being of yourself and your family. Only you can make that decision. Please do what you think is best for you.
Let’s talk airports: obviously the travel industry has taken a hit because of COVID and there have been major cuts to jobs within the industry. We flew out of Cleveland and Orlando with Frontier. There were significant differences to crowds at the different airports.
We had minimal waits at TSA (<5 minutes) for each airport. Cleveland was very compliant with social distancing. MCO there were guests behind us who were in a hurry and right on our tails. There were no issues with masks at either airport. Temperatures were taken before we boarded
The flight from CLE to MCO was PACKED. Frontier is not restricting what seats are being sold 😅 so we actually chose to wear our faceshields with our surgical masks during that flight. Coming home, the row behind us was open so the girl next to us moved there. Still packed flight
No drinks or snacks were provided unless purchased (on a limited basis). Adam and I made sure that we used hand sanitizer after we touched something and did not use the tray table (to minimize our contact with different items).
Disney’s Magical Express: we stayed at Caribbean and arrived late Sunday evening. That bus went to Pop, Caribbean, Riveria, and Kidani. They told us which specific seats to sit in (every other row) and people managed to now follow directions.
You have to grab your bags at baggage claim, Magical Express is not picking them up for you! The driver put them on the bus and also assisted with taking off the bus.
Caribbean Beach: I can speak about some of our experiences visiting other resorts. Disney is promoting online check in through MDE which was great since our room was ready, you can still check in at the front desk.
Mouse keeping was limited to every other day and they sanitized the items within the room that are typically touched the most. For example, our remote was in a plastic bag that indicated it was sanitized and you could take it out of the bag.
They also replenished more towels than we needed. We stayed in a standard room with 5th sleeper (there was just 2 of us) and we had 8 wash cloths. A little excessive, but not complaining. You can request more towels if needed.
Also if you really care about this, the beds are not made with the new updated cleaning services so keep that in mind!
Dining: Not all dining options were available. The quick services in the resorts and parks are really trying to promote the mobile ordering which honestly we loved. You could get ready and place your order, by the time you left your room to walk over, it was ready for pick up!
Even in the parks, it was easy to order and pick up if you were coming from a ride or across the land. Keep in mind you can use gift cards, but if your balance exceeds the amount on the card, you have to use your credit card on file to pay the remaining balance.
Menus were also limited so make sure you check out them out before you order so you aren’t disappointed! CMs are also serving drinks so if you have the mugs, they will be grabbing the drinks for you.
For people like us who drink water, we made sure to ask for numerous cups of water when ordering our food because it was more difficult to ask for refills, but we would also use the water cups to refill our Yetis. Size of water cups varied!
Restaurants: Online check in was also promoted for reservations. You could also try to get on the walk up list through MDE, but those lists were limited for each restaurant. Temperatures were taken before entering the restaurant. Staff wore masks and faceshields.
QR codes were used to pull up the menus, staff were very helpful with assisting as needed. Once again, limited menus and social distancing maintained for tables.
