“Counselors need real support this year (opinion).” And here’s our response @SwatAdmissions to this call to action (Short thread): https://www.insidehighered.com/admissions/views/2020/10/12/counselors-need-real-support-year-opinion#.X4TqzkQSkuN.twitter
“Ensure that updated policies and review processes are transparent and easily accessible.” Absolutely. Friday, we sent out 50,000 emails to counselors worldwide & continue to update our testing policy website & info for counselors https://www.swarthmore.edu/admissions-aid/information-counselors
We also published a new Resources for Counselors page for more seamless one-stop-shopping: https://www.swarthmore.edu/admissions-aid/resources-counselors
We hope our standardized testing policy is accessible and clear. We have taken a lot of time to think through potential questions or confusing jargon (suggestions always welcome): https://www.swarthmore.edu/admissions-aid/standardized-testing-policy
“Support the application process by creating tools for K-12 educators.” We are actively creating webinars & workshops directly for students and will publish on our Connect with Us website & YouTube Channel. We have 9 coming up & will continue to add: https://www.swarthmore.edu/admissions-aid/connect-admissions
We also created a student-facing tool called SwatPass to determine eligibility for an application fee waiver. Counselors do NOT need to submit any documentation or proof; students can do this completely on their own: https://apply.swarthmore.edu/register/swatpass
We also publish all of the ways we try to make the application process more accessible, affordable, and equitable: https://www.swarthmore.edu/admissions-aid/applying-affordable
“Create both digital and analog recruiting resources” YES! We will happily pack up our digital materials and videos and ship out a USB thumb drive for students who can’t access broadband. We are also researching ways to use WhatsApp. Email us at access@swarthmore.edu to request.
We hope these tools, websites, videos, emails and other media will help alleviate their burden placed on counselors and help all students struggling with the college application process this year. (End thread)
